GM 3.8L ENGINES 1995-2005 W/O SUPERCHARGER
IMPORTANT NOTICE
FOLLOW ALL PRECAUTION PROCEDURES FOUND IN THE ENGINE UNIT REPAIR SECTION OF THE SERVICE REPAIR MANUAL PRIOR TO REMOVAL OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD (UPPER PLENUM)
1. Remove old EGR tube sleeve located at the top of the lower intake manifold with a vise grip equipped with a slide hammer. (See Figure 1)
2. Clean the EGR tube sleeve port of all contaminates and install the provided EGR tube sleeve using a deep impact 9/16 or 15 mm socket by gently tapping down on the socket. (See Figure 2) Note: Failure to install the NAM unique EGR tube sleeve can lead to future upper plenum failure. The NAM sleeve in conjunction with the NAM plenum allows for a larger airspace around the sleeve and plenum. Hot exhaust gases flowing through the tube will not overheat the plenum. Overheating causes the upper plenum to become prone to cracking and eventually cause engine coolant to leak inside the combustion chamber resulting in severe engine damage.
3. Place the upper plenum gasket on the lower intake manifold and install the upper plenum. (See Figure 3) Install the provided PCV valve and EGR assembly components to the new intake manifold.
4. Tighten intake manifold bolts in two steps to specifications in the correct sequence. First step tighten to 22 inch pounds. Final step, tighten to 89 inch pounds. (See Figure 4)
